When choosing FR, knowing your danger should be at the top of the list - no matter what type of FR clothing you choose. Select
fire protect jacket that meet or exceed all relevant safety standards based on your hazard assessment, such as ASTM 1506, NFPA 2112, and NFPA 70E. For a garment that is considered to be flame retardant, the FR fabric used to make the FR garment must be subjected to ignition and/or rapid self-extinguishing to protect the wearer from flash fire, arc flash, molten metal and other hazards. In the event of a flash or arc flash, the FR PPE worn must be able to withstand fire, melt and continue to burn after the initial flash as a barrier between the wearer and the hazard.
